let's be fashion foward and make a broad statement.

"together the shoulders and slinky skirt looked like a suit. a strong suit. a fortiesish suit, not an eightisish suit. i ferreted out my black patent Alaia platforms. this really did look OK. then i chickened out. i shed the shoulders and fled to report on the Armani Prive show. the piquant regret i experienced on leaving the Margiela on the bed might be more understood by what happened next. a seat opposite stayed empty until the last dramatic moment before the lights went down. then Cate Blanchett walked along and sat in it. and what was she wearing? a black, wide-shouldered, slinky-skirted fortiesish suit, custom-made for her by Mr. Armani. damn, damn, damn."-shrug it on by Sarah Mower APR07 Vogue-

i love perfectly tailored, structured clothing and when i spotted the broad shoulder look at the Balenciaga spring07 show, i was very excited that such a trend had been reintroduced. i love its silhouette and its ability to change one's look entirely. it gives a look so much more power and impact, you're bound to stand out from the rest of the crowd and there's no doubt you'll look cool, sexy and fabulous doing it. this just might be my favorite new trend.

I find the shoulders done best by Balenciaga and Lanvin! Is there anything with big shoulders at H&M? Or not (yet)?

Garrrr. I just wrote an incredibly long commment which I accidentally deleted.

tres frustrating.

But great post, I'm glad your posts are frequent again, I was missing them during that little break.

I feel sorry for Sarah Mower, I would have been gutted, but at least she had an article in Vogue to channel her frustration into!..

Love this look, especially at Lanvin. It seems to be the new type of androgyness, which is good because editorials featuring Agyness and tux's have now become somewhat cliched.

Also love Maison Martin Margiela, haven't heard of it before, but from what I can see of the collection could be part of the "new generation" of designers who are coming up with fresh looks and concepts?

Thanks for taking back in the quiz by the way, and the feedback, I think I may turn it into a fortnightly quiz, purely because it takes a while to count up the votes etc.

Ahh, long enough comment?

I agree with you, that kind of shoulders make an outfit look powerful. It is very elegant indeed.
I would wear those Proenza Schouler.
Great post, I love it.

I hate when that happens, you pick out a great outfit, get scared and then resent the girl who had the guts to wear it well.

I love structure so the return of this silhouette is exciting.

I love the Armani photos you used. So classic and elegant -- and it looks soooo easy to do! I must say the Lanvin shoulders are bit too wide for me -- almost trendy-ish.

I love the looks by Maison Martin Margiela. They're so chic and sophisticated, and the fit is perfect. The color-block on the Maison dress is gorgeous...simple colors and a simple silhouette.
